Personalized 4-Week Deep Dives

I'm excited to share my series of intensive, month-long Zoom workshops. These classes are designed to guide you through specific challenges in watercolor, moving you beyond simply following demonstrations to truly mastering technique and intellectual understanding.

Each workshop is strictly limited to 12 artists to ensure a high level of personalized attention.

Why This Format Works for Your Growth

My main goal is to give you the focused time and individualized feedback you need to truly advance your skill set.

  • Your Weekly 15-Minute Private Critique: This is the most valuable part of the course. We will meet one-on-one every week to discuss your progress. This dedicated time is just for your work. We will look at your unique challenges—whether it's brushwork, value judgment, or water control—to help you stop guessing and start painting with intention.

  • Ready-to-Paint Videos: Before each live class, I'll send a video covering composition and image setup. You come to class prepared and ready to start painting right away.

  • Targeted Technique Exercises: Each week includes a simple exercise that focuses on the exact watercolor technique we will need that week. Practicing this small skill beforehand helps you feel confident when we begin the main painting.

Painting the Glow: Capturing Light in Watercolor

Cost: $225 USD. (4 Weeks)

Light is the core of watercolor, but making a sunset shine or a candle glow can feel elusive. This course is a relaxed but focused study designed to guide you through this challenge. If you enjoy painting and have a little experience (beginner to intermediate level is welcome), this course is designed for you.

  • Week 1: A Golden Sunset. How to manage wet washes, create soft atmospheric glow, and handle those beautiful wet-into-wet transitions.

  • Week 2: A Warm Candle Still Life. Creating focused local light, painting the shadow that defines the light, and controlling soft, subtle edges.

  • Week 3: Evening Street Light. Mastering rich dark values, creating contrast, and isolating the light source so it really pops.

  • Week 4: A Campfire or Bonfire. Handling warm, intense color and generating texture and the feeling of heat in the painting.

Painting Form and Shadow

Cost: $225 USD. (4 Weeks)

Have you ever struggled to make objects look truly three-dimensional? Form and shadow are the essential tools we use to give subjects weight and depth, making them look real enough to touch. This intensive focuses entirely on seeing and painting volume, moving your work beyond flat color.

  • Week 1: The Kitchen Counter Spotlight. Defining the perfect roundness and volume of fruit using smooth graded washes and mastering the Core Shadow.

  • Week 2: Window Light on a White Cloth. Creating realistic folds and creases by correctly painting Cast Shadows and the subtle color of Reflected Light in an interior composition.

  • Week 3: Forest Trees at Sunset. Using light and shadow to create the Cylindrical Form and rough texture of bark, giving trees presence and depth within the landscape.

  • Week 4: Profile in Half-Light. Modeling the sculptural shapes of the head (the nose, brow, jawline) using subtle Color Shifts in the shadow to capture form in a portrait.

Clean Watercolor: Techniques for Clarity and Control

Cost: $225 USD. (4 Weeks)

Do you ever struggle with muddy color, streaky washes, or unwanted blooms? Clean, clear color is the hallmark of beautiful watercolor, and this course focuses entirely on mastering the flow of water and pigment to achieve precise, professional results. You will learn to eliminate guesswork and confusion.

  • Week 1: Distant Village in Morning Mist. Achieving perfectly smooth color transitions and seamless value shifts in large areas to imply atmosphere and distance.

  • Week 2: Clear Water by the Dock. Building color and luminosity by applying multiple, clean, controlled Glazes (transparent layers) to blend colors seamlessly and create the illusion of depth.

  • Week 3: Rocky Riverbed Texture. Harnessing Granulation by exploring specific pigments to create texture in rock and earth without extra work.

  • Week 4: Lighthouse on the Coast. Learning to control Sharp, Hard Edges for clean architectural details and strong foreground elements, while managing the wetness of surrounding areas for contrast.
